The comfort system works on four comfort tracks: Food, Rest, Body and Soul. Each track has three comfort levels, and the combined comfort levels from all four tracks denote how many comfort points you have available.
Example: Mari has 2 comfort levels in Food, 1 comfort level in Rest, and 1 comfort level in Body. She thus has (2+1+1) 4 comfort points.
A comfort track has a status which can either be Satisfied, Stable or Declining. When a character performs a comfort action which has a level the same or higher than his current comfort level in the associated track, the comfort track is marked as Satisfied (x). If the comfort action has a level lower than his current comfort level in the associated track, the track is marked as Stable (/).
Example: Mari has 2 comfort levels in Food, 1 comfort level in Rest, and 1 comfort level in Body.
She goes to a Spa, a lvl 2 Body comfort action, raising her Body track to level 2 and marking the track as Satisfied. She also gets a Common Meal, a lvl 1 Food comfort action. Her Food track remains at lvl 2, but is marked as Stable. Since she performed no actions for Rest and Soul, they both have the Declining status.

Rest and Travel
If a character spends the day without performing travel or fatiguing activity, just before daily tracking (next section) the character can raise the stability of all tracks by one step (declining to stable, stable to statisfied). Most downtime activities falls into the category of non-fatiguing activity, while most adventuring falls into the category of fatiguing activities.
During travel, the character may increase the stability of a number of tracks determined by the mode of travel.

A forced march while riding (normal or nice) counts as Fatiguing Activity.
The worst mode is what counts for the day. So if you arrive to a port by ship and then continue riding inland, you count as riding. If you ride to a dungeon and then do some adventuring, you count as having performed fatiguing activity.
Daily Tracking
When waking from a long rest, a character goes through three steps.
Natural Healing
A character handles natural healing as per the normal rules, but may also spend a number of comfort points up to his or her level to heal additional hit points (though conditions that would prevent natural healing also prevents this healing). For each comfort point spent, he must remove one level from the track with the highest level, choosing which track to remove from if multiple tracks meet the condition.
Example: Mari is a 3rd level fighter. She has 2 comfort levels in Food, 1 comfort level in Rest, and 2 comfort levels in Body.
As part of her natural healing, she can spend 3 comfort points to heal 3 hp. The first two points would need to be from the Food and Body tracks, since they have the highest level, but the last point could be from any of the three tracks.
Decline
Each comfort track loses one level, unless the track is marked as Satisfied or Stable. If all tracks that has a comfort level higher than 0 are marked as Satisfied, then no levels are lost.
If some tracks that has a comfort level higher than 0 are marked as Stable, then at least one track must lose one level. If there are any Declining tracks, this means all Declining tracks. If there are no Declining tracks, then she loses one level from the Stable track with the highest level, choosing which track to remove from if multiple tracks meet the condition.
After decline has been performed, all tracks are changed to the Declining status. In order for them to again gain the Stable or Satisfied status new Comfort actions need to be performed.
Example: Mari as 2 comfort levels in Food, 1 comfort level in Rest and 1 comfort level in Body.
Declining: If all tracks were Declining, she would lose one level from each.
Partially Declining: If the Food track(2) was Satisfied or Stable, and the Rest(1) and Body(1) tracks were Declining, she would lose one level from each of Rest and Body.
Satisfied: If all three tracks were Satisfied, then she would lose no levels.
Stable: If all three tracks were Stable, then she would lose one level from Food (since it is level two and the two others are level one), ending up at 1 comfort level in all three tracks. If they were again Stable the following morning, she would then choose one to reduce.
Note that the Soul track hasn't had an impact on any of these examples, since at level 0 it can't lose any more levels.
Temporary Hit Points
Finally, after decline has been handled, a character gains 1 temporary hit point for each Comfort Track at level 1 or higher. These temporary hit points last until the next morning.
Example: After decline Mari as 2 comfort levels in Food, 1 comfort level in Rest and 0 comfort levels in Body and Soul. She gains 2 temporary hit points for the two tracks that are at level 1 or higher.

Failing a Profession Cook by less than 5, merely downgrades the meal one level (banquet to good, good to common, common to poor).

A character gets no Rest comfort, if rest is consistently disturbed by noise, climate or inclement weather. Characters seeking to maintain Rest comfort while traveling should invest in a tent.
