You are also proficient with light, medium and heavy armor and all shields, including tower shields. You are also proficient in all shield bashes.
When performing a charge, you only suffer a -1 penalty to your AC rather than -2.

Combat Training
Mercenaries may combine combat spheres and talents to create powerful martial techniques. When they gain their first level they choose either Wisdom or Intelligence as their practitioner modifier.
Talents
You gain the Berserker Sphere or Shield Sphere as a bonus sphere in addition to two other combat talents.
Default: In addition to picking the Shield Sphere you pick the Redirecting Shield talent and the Brute Sphere.
Feats
You gain a bonus Combat or Teamwork feat at level 1 in addition to your normal level 1 feat.
Default: Pick Powerful Maneuvers and Weapon Focus for your chosen weapon.
Equipment
Starting Gold: 175 gold pieces
Gear Packages:
- longsword, heavy steel shield, shortbow w. 20 arrows, scale mail armor and 55 gold pieces, or
- warhammer, heavy wooden shield, chainmail armor and 2 gold pieces, or
- battleaxe, heavy wooden shield, 5 javelins, chainshirt and 49 gold pieces
and a traveler's outfit, a backpack, a belt pouch, and a whetstone.
Use 6 gold pieces if you wish to purchase a Trail Package.
