Sword Mage

Class Skills: The sword mage's class skills are Acrobatics (Dex), Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Intimidate (Cha), Knowledge (Arcana; Int), Knowledge (Nature; Int), Knowledge (Nobility; Int), Knowledge (Planes; Int), Knowledge (Religion; Int), Knowledge (war) (Int), Profession (Wis), Ride (Dex), Spellcraft (Int), Survival (Wis), and Swim (Str).

Skill Ranks Per Level: 4 + Int modifier.

Proficiencies: A sword mage is proficient with simple weapons, as well as the flail, greatsword, halberd, heavy flail, heavy pick, light pick, lance, longsword, shortsword, and warhammer, and may wield the bastard sword and estoc, but only as two-handed martial weapons.

The sword mage is also proficient in all armor and shields, including tower shields, and are proficient in all shield bashes.

Casting

A sword mage may combine spheres and talents to create magical effects.

Note: You use Intelligence as your casting ability modifier.

Spell Pool

A sword mage gains a small reservoir of energy he can call on to create truly wondrous effects, called a spell pool. This pool replenishes once per day after roughly 8 hours of rest.

Calculate: Calculate your spell pool: Base Spell Pool + your casting ability modifier (minimum: 1).

Magic Tradition

Sword mages follow the Elven Magic tradition.

Blended Training

Whenever a sword mage would gain a magic talent from her class levels (not the 2 bonus talents gained when first gaining the casting class feature), she may instead choose to gain a combat talent. A sword mage uses her casting ability modifier as her practitioner modifier.

Resist Magic (Ex)

A sword mage gains a natural resistance to magic as she focuses on its use in combat. A sword mage gains a +1 bonus to all saving throws against magic, spells, spell-like abilities, and sphere effects.

Magical Talents

A sword mage gains a magic talent at 1st level, 2nd level, and again at every even level thereafter, along with 2 magic talents the first time they gain the Casting class feature.

A sword mage can freely takes the following spheres:

Default: You get the Enhancement Sphere with the Increase Speed and Physical Enhancement talents.

Alternatively: Pick three different spheres/talents, one of which can be a combat talent.

Martial Talents

From her martial tradition, the sword mage gains the Finesse Fighting Equipment talent twice, and gains either the Duelist Sphere or the Fencing Sphere.

Default: You get the Fencing Sphere.

Feats

The sword mage gains no extra feats on first level.

Default: Pick Extra Combat Talent as your level 1 feat, and use it to gain the Feint Strike talent.

Stalwart (Ex)

A sword mage can use mental and physical resiliency to avoid certain attacks. If she makes a Fortitude or Will saving throw against an attack that has a reduced effect on a successful save, she instead avoids the effect entirely.

A helpless sword mage does not gain the benefit of the stalwart ability.

Feats

The sword mage gains no extra feats on third level.

Default: Pick Extra Spell Points as your third level feat.

Resist Magic (Ex)

The sword mage's bonus against all saving throws against magic, spells, spell-like abilities, and sphere effects increases to +2.

The sword mage gains no extra feats on fifth level.

Default: Pick Extra Combat Talent as your fifth level feat and use it to gain the Expert Feint Fencing talent.
